Biography of Swami Vivekananda Swami Vivekananda( born Narendranath Datta ) was a Hindu monk and principal convert of the 19th century Indian Jeremiah Ramakrishna. He was a crucial figure in the preface of the Indian doctrines of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world and is credited with raising interfaith mindfulness, bringing Hinduism to the status of a major world religion during the late 19th century. He was a major force in the reanimation of Hinduism in India, and contributed to the conception of nationalism in social India. He was a spiritual leader and social leftist who innovated the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission. His training and jottings have inspired thousands of people around the world.
